This precious baby girl came back for more photos to capture her newest milestone of sitting up!  Last time I photographed these beloved clients, it was mid-winter.  Little Henley has grown so much since then! She’s as cute as ever with the best baby rolls and cheeks.  We started with a beautiful family photo, and then took a sister photo, then focused on Henley in the garden.  I keep the milestone sessions short and sweet.  I like the babies to leave when they’re still happy.  I find that when a baby arrives they have a limited amount of attention they’re willing to give me.  They have a limited number of smiles.  So instead of creating elaborate sessions full of creative props and lots of locations, these sessions are simple and easy for everyone.  The next session  of the year will be the nine month session when I can capture her little legs as she begins to stand up all by herself.  I’m already looking forward to the cooler days of fall and seeing how much she’s going to have grown.

The First Year Baby Plan | There’s no gift a parent wants more at their baby’s first birthday than to look back at the miracle of all the beauty, wonder and growth throughout the year.  A tiny sleepy bundle with itsy bitsy fingers and toes becomes a smiling, walking, talking baby with bright eyes all full of laughter and soul.  I love documenting this first year for you with beautiful photography, high resolution digital files and a custom designed coffee table book at the end of the year telling the whole story.  More than any other thing in their nursery, you will treasure this art for the rest of your days.

So much baby boy cuteness at our newborn session last week!  We had the most gorgeous maternity session and I’ve been waiting with excitement to meet this little boy.  He arrived and he’s so beautiful.  We started the photo session with some sibling and family photos.  Grandma and Grandpa came too, so we were able to get lots of family photos with everyone.  When I look at the photos of this tiny baby boy with his two big sisters, I think about all the adventures they are going to take him on.  You can see their love and excitement for him all over their faces.  What genuine, happy smiles!  I know it can be difficult to get everyone ready for photos and out of the house in the morning on time with a newborn, but the family photos are so worth it.  With time, they become treasures.   This family did such a great job planning soft clothing that photographs well without distracting from the perfection of a new little baby.  This mama is so gorgeous.  I love the flattering pose of her laying on her back with her baby looking up.  She looks amazing with her big smile and that perfect baby cradled in her arms.   After all the family photos were over, we focused on little Leo.  Keeping the colors and tones simple, we used grays, blues, teal and greens.  Since it was a warm summer day we even got to go out to the garden for some sleepy dreamy garden photos.  I love this time of year and bringing babies out into my garden when it’s warm enough.  The outside photos are always my favorite.  I am so happy that I met this gorgeous family and was able to help them welcome their little boy into the world.  He is just darling, and everyone is already smitten.

I love my job.  I love that I get to be outside at the most beautiful time of the day in the prettiest locations on earth photographing happiness and love.  This was such a joy-filled photo session.  For most families, I have to jump through 5204569987 hoops to get the children to laugh and smile and stay interested in my boring black camera being in their faces.  I play peek-a-boo, I blow bubbles, I make every noise I can to keep myself exciting.  But these kiddos were so perfect.  They were like little dolls I picked up at the store and set in my garden to photograph.  The older boys cuddled in to their sister so happily.  Their sister cuddled back with such joy.  I love starting photo sessions in my garden and then traveling to a new place to maximize the settings in your gallery.  My garden is deep emerald green with lots of depth of field.  We started there with some close up portraits and a few photos of the three kids snuggling together.  Our next stop was a huge field with mountain views and sweeping views of the sky.  The focus for this photo session was on the little girl, so we took lots of time with her.  I love her huge smile as she’s catching a handful of bubbles.  She’s wearing such a cute little jumper.  And that rim light lighting up her head makes her look like a girl out of a fairytale.  It was just a thirty minute session, but we had time for photos of just the three kids, photos of the whole family, some candids and some close ups.  When children are this easy to smile and easy to listen, it’s no effort at all to create a beautiful gallery.

I love creative senior photography and sessions where I get to be artistic.  This gorgeous high school senior drove to my Boulder photography studio all the way from Missouri for her senior photos.  Every year a handful of clients make a journey to Boulder for their photo session with me, and I’m always so honored that someone would travel this far for a photo session.  I always feel extra pressure for the weather to be perfect and extra hopeful for a beautiful sunset because there are no re-dos with out of state clients.  The day of this photo session the forecast called for rain and storms.  We kept our fingers crossed and visualized sun and warmth and that’s exactly what we got.  It was the most beautiful night.

We started the photo session in my garden and Hannah wore a bright turquoise dress that matched the color of her eyes almost exactly.  Next we drove to a beautiful field and took some family photos.  The sun shined down on us and warmed each image with rim light, sun flares and a golden glow.  Hannah purchased these awesome confetti grendades.  They made more confetti than anything I’ve seen and felt so celebratory.  Next, we drove down the road for some more photos.  Hannah is a double black belt and had this idea to lay each of her belts in the middle of the road and to sit at the end of the road with her double black belt around her neck.  We had to jump in and out of the road several times and laughed at ourselves for the lengths we were going to for these images.  But it was so worth it.  Finally, we went to a beautiful lake and Hannah wore her prom dress.  This is the prettiest dress I’ve ever photographed.  White fluffy tulle.  Beaded flowers on the body.  She looked like a fairytale princess.  With bravery, she got into the water for some really awesome and dramatic images.  The clouds, the reflection, the shiny highlights in the water…it was all like a watercolor painting.  This was a magical photo session and such a great one to start off the season of senior photography.

This cute baby boy came in for his six month photo session in my studio and garden.  The last time he came, it was the middle of winter and little Isaac was just smiling.  Now he’s sitting up, laughing, cooing and totally engaged.  Throughout the first year photo collection, I try to capture the changes throughout the year.  I want to capture each major milestone.  As a newborn it’s the sleepy perfection that I photograph.  At three months, it’s a very simple and quick photo session all about the smile and close ups of bright baby eyes.  Around six months babies are beginning to sit up and they’re really able to look and engage with happiness.  The nine month photo session is all about capturing tiny legs learning to stand up on their own.  Then finally at the one year session I focus on first steps, first teeth, and family love.  The year ticks by so quickly.  I love photographing every stage for you so you don’t have to.  At the end of the year every family gets a beautiful custom photo album of their favorite images from the year.  This coffee table book becomes more of a treasure with each passing year.

I really like the simple, casual clothing this family chose for their photo session.  The soft overalls are such a perfect choice for baby Isaac.  They are timeless and cute but don’t take away from Isaac’s sweet baby face or distract from the photos.  We started the session in my garden and I took a few photos of Isaac smiling and sitting up.  I couldn’t resist a little close up of his toes.  Next, we went out to my garden where it’s deep emerald green right now.  We took some family photos, blew lots of sticky bubbles, and played peek-a-boo as Isaac smiled away.  I am already looking forward to Isaac’s nine month session when I get to photograph him learning to stand.
